Golf fans appeared to be unanimous in their verdict after a poor soul at the PGA Tour was 'sent into the lion's den in the name of content' with England's Tyrrell Hatton.

For context, Hatton had just completed the final round of the second leg of the FedExCup playoffs at the BMW Championship

It was a disastrous finish for the Englishman as he played his final four holes at Olympia Fields Country Club in 4-over.

His frustration was evident on No. 18 when he caught the lip of the bunker playing his approach.

Hatton had a complete meltdown and smashed the sand with his iron before throwing it on the floor. Then he held his head in his hands.

By day's end his final round of 71 meant he finished T-34 but was also in a precarious position over whether he would make it to Atlanta next week for the season finale at East Lake.

Only the top 30 players in the standings make it through to the $75m Tour Championship.

Hatton felt in the immediate aftermath of his round he wasn't going to be in the field. "I don't think I'll be there," he told an official.

That was because Denny McCarthy, Sahith Theegala, Chris Kirk and Justin Rose had holes to play and were hoping of leapfrogging Hatton.

But Hatton squeaked into the field along with Jordan Spieth and European Ryder Cup hopeful Sepp Straka.

Still, over at GolfMagic we suggest he didn't really want to have this conversation:

The clip divided golf fans. Comments included:

"What a weird, awkward video. PGA Tour in a nutshell."
"Tyrell was NOT having any of it."
"Why are you showing this? A private conversation that TH didn't want to have in the first place?"
"I don't think he wanted to know, chaps."
"I have a feeling Tyrrell knows exactly what is going on and doesn't need this info."
"This is so cringe by the PGA Tour. Hatton is ridiculous sometimes but they are fishing for a reaction."
"Explaining the situation to a man who clearly understands his exact situation, while he's fuming because he put himself in that position just moments ago, is... something."
"Delete this."
"Who in their right mind thought it was a good idea to stick a camera in his face after finishing double-birdie-bogey-bogey?!"
"Even the players don't care. Why would they post this?"
"I can't believe they actually posted this."
"Amazing. Sent into the lion's den with Tyrrell Hatton in the name of content."
"This seems like the last video the PGA Tour would actually post to promote excitement about the Tour Championship. Seems like a parody."
"What I would give to the reaction had the camera not been there."
"Congrats! You've earned the right to start 10 shots behind Scottie Scheffler next week..."
