Rory McIlroy has broken the single season driving distance record on the PGA Tour.

McIlroy, 34, finished the PGA Tour season with a mammoth driving distance average of 326.3 yards

The World No.2 finished ahead of Brandon Matthews (321.2 yards) and US Ryder Cup reject Cameron Young (316.9 yards). 

McIlroy surpasses the previous driving distance record on the PGA Tour set by Bryson DeChambeau (323.7 yards) in the 2020-21 season.

The Northern Irishman currently uses a TaylorMade Stealth 2 Plus Driver

Dechambeau, who now plays on the LIV Golf League, had 51,790 yards of driving distance that year over 160 measured drives. 

McIlroy had 41,771 yards of driving distance this season over 128 measured drives. 

The PGA Tour average driving distance in the 2022-23 season was 299.9 yards

McIlroy capped off his PGA Tour season with a solo fourth at the Tour Championship.

He only won twice on the PGA Tour in the 2022-23 season.

The Northern Irishman successfully defended his CJ Cup title by one stroke over Kurt Kitayama in October 2022. 

He then birdied the final two holes to defeat Robert MacIntyre by one stroke at the Genesis Scottish Open in July 2023. 

McIlroy hit one drive there 427 yards! 

McIlroy missed the cut at The Masters but then reeled off three straight top-10 in the majors at the US PGA (T7), US Open (2), The Open (T6). 

The agonising wait for a fifth career major title now slips into a 10th year for McIlroy.
