PGA Tour stars Sungjae Im and Si Woo Kim have today earned military exemptions as a result of winning a gold medal for South Korea at the Asian Games in China.

Im and Kim joined forces with Yubin Jang and Wooyoung Cho to shoot a combined 76-under par total in the four-day event at West Lake International Golf Course.

Two-time PGA Tour winner Im finished second in the individual tournament, finishing one stroke behind Taichi Cho of Hong Kong.

Im shot rounds of 66, 65, 66 and 65 to finish the week 26-under par on his own ball.

After earning his gold medal, which now means he is exempt from mandatory military conscription, Im admits there is a lot of relief that he can now fully concentrate on his PGA Tour career.

Im said:

“This has been the longest four days of my career. Every hole felt so important, and I knew every shot counted for our team event. I wanted to fight for every shot and do the best I could until the finish."

The South Korean thinks he can become an even better all-round player as a result of his gold medal exemption.

"I think I should be able to stay focused even more on the PGA Tour. I feel like I can have a really long and successful run there. I think this will help me so much mentally."

Four-time PGA Tour winner Kim finished solo fourth in the individual tournament on 23-under par.

Yang finished fifth on 22-under par and Cho finished 17-under par in a tie for sixth.

Im and Kim are ranked 27th and 40th in the Official World Golf Rankings respectively.
