REVIEW: TAYLORMADE 2017 M2 DRIVER
For a game improvement iron, the TaylorMade 2017 M2 isn’t too chunky. The topline is thinner compared the original M2, which makes it more attractive sat behind the ball.
The overall aesthetic is modern and premium. It's one of the best looking game improvers on the market.
The numerous technologies on show are confidence boosting, to boot. You know there’s going to be loads of help built in.
Explosive. The TaylorMade 2017 M2 iron rockets off the face, and has a deep, powerful feel, matched by a rich, commanding sound.
In the distance stakes, this is one of the longest irons out there. It is only a couple of yards longer compared to last year’s iron, but we found more consistency in the 2017 product.
Face Slots and a Speed Pocket (4 to 7 irons) on the bottom creates a trampoline effect allowing the face to flex for distance and forgiveness.
Last year’s iron had heaps of forgiveness, and this continues in 2017. All over the face, you’ll be really pleased with the amount of aid on offer. Rivets in the hosel allowed TaylorMade to save weight, which was then re-distributed to increase MOI, furthermore increasing forgiveness.
The low CG from last year is improved, meaning this launches high straight off the bat. Coupled with increased balls speeds, players with any swing speed should be getting decent yardage out of this.
It’s particularly forgiving from the low section of the face, which will be welcome relief for those that tend to catch the ball thin.
The 8-PW do not have the speed pocket, and are a more compact iron. Forgiveness noticeably drops off at this end of the bag, providing more control.
A leading game improvement iron foir 2017. Merging TaylorMade’s best technology from recent years with some new refinements has produced a forgiving, long iron with an explosive feel - and they look great too.
A couple yards longer compared to the original M2 iron, and some more forgiveness too. The feel has improved too - more explosive, and also sophisticated.
Sure to be one of the most popular irons for mid to high handicappers in 2017.
