Titleist 718 irons review: Six new models comprise Titleist's best ever iron offering
Titleist bring six new models to market in the 718 line of irons, ranging from a classic blade through to what many would deem a “game improvement” club.
The all new 718 AP3 fills the gap between the AP1 and AP3, providing forgiveness but also playability.
718 MB - £150 steel shaft, £175 graphite
A classic blade that will have the purists purring. Thin topline and sole and a small, compact head. Offers a knee-buckling feel, which is both soft and responsive. Upgraded for improved turf interaction, and optimised CG in 2017. Allows user to play any shot they wish, if they have the skill to hit it. A pure player’s iron.
718 CB - £150 steel shaft, £175 graphite
Boasts a cavity back, but maintains stunning aesthetics. Cavity and tungsten combine to offer more MOI than MB, offering decent forgiveness. Still excellent workability on offer, but feel very slightly hampered compared to MB.
718 AP2 - £150 per club, £175 graphite
The most popular iron on worldwide Tours has gone up another notch. Co-forged cavity back design, improved CG progression and perimeter tungsten offer extreme forgiveness for what is a Tour player’s iron. Great to look down on and have in the bag, and the sound and feel remains similar to that seen in the 716 version - excellent.
718 T-MB - £230 steel shaft, £255 graphite
Now available in a full set of irons, the T-MB has the looks of a muscle back, with heaps of forgiveness thanks to a load of tungsten. Naturally launches high, with a responsive feel. Gives out some impressive distance numbers.
718 AP3 - £150 steel shaft, £175 graphite
The new kid on the block. Rounded mid-mallet will suit the eye of better players, while offering enough forgiveness for high handicap golfers. Lots of forgiveness, while also offering impressive levels of control for better players. Soft and fiery off the face. Product from the line that will suit the most golfers.
718 AP1 - £115 steel shaft, £140 graphite
The most forgiving and longest iron from Titleist ever. Maintains incredible looks considering how much forgiveness is packed in. Serious distance through the entire set, and relatively consistent considering it’s on the game improvement side of things. Feel is explosive off the face.
