Adrien Saddier punches ticket to first major after landing maiden DP World Tour title

Adrien Saddier punched his ticket to a first career major at the 153rd Open after capturing his maiden title on the DP World Tour at the Italian Open. 

France's Saddier, 33, closed with a 4-under 66 to see out a two-shot victory over his compatriot Martin Couvra on 14-under par. 

The victory marked Saddier's first in his landmark 200th DP World Tour start. 

Saddier took full control of the tournament on the short par-4 16th.

Holding a one-shot lead on the tee, Saddier left the green with a three-shot lead.

That was after Couvra hooked his tee shot into the penalty area, leading to a bogey-five.

Saddier, meanwhile, rolled home a 12-footer to take a three-shot lead into the final two holes. 

Couvra would birdie the par-5 18th but it was to little avail. 

Calum Hill and Dan Bradbury finished in a tie for third on 10-under par, one shot ahead of Clement Sordet and Nicolai von Dellingshausen. 

With two Open spots up for grabs at the Italian Open, Couvra also took a consolation prize of earning a first major appearance at The Open. 

The next events in the Open Qualifying Series will be contested at Final Qualifiers on Tuesday. 

One spot in The Open will be dished out to a LIV Golf player in Dallas tonight.

Sergio Garcia narrowly holds the spot at the moment but the Spaniard will need results to go his way in the final round if he's to play in The Open for the first time since 2022.
