Spain's Angel Ayora will take a one-shot lead into the weekend at the Italian Open.

Former LIV Golf target Ayora, 20, went round Argentario Golf Club in a bogey-free six-under 65 on Friday afternoon.

The youngster made a series of stunning par saves on the front nine then reeled in early leader Dan Bradbury with a clinical putting display.

Ayora put circles on his scorecard at the ninth, 10th, 11th and 12th to tie the lead.

He missed a birdie putt from four feet at the 16th but finished with a par at 17 and a birdie at the last after hitting a sublime approach from 85 yards to four feet.

Ayora is searching for his first DP World Tour victory but he has four players one shot behind heading into round three.

Former LIV recruit Eugenio Chacarra is also inside the top 10.

Ayora told Sky Sports Golf: "I started today very badly. From the tee I was struggling with my swing, but there were some very good recoveries and I was putting very good, so thank you to my short game.

"On the back nine I was trying to find a swing thought or something to recover from the front nine. I think I found it and I hope to do it tomorrow as well.

"I try to be patient. It’s difficult to do it on the course when things aren’t going very well, but you need to do it.

"If you start thinking about the past, the bad strokes, it’s not the way to do it. I try to do my best and to finish with a birdie is always a great thing."
