BMW PGA Championship winner Alex Noren reacts to injury replacement Ryder Cup question

Sweden's Alex Noren claimed the 2025 BMW PGA Championship after prevailing in a tense play-off over Frenchman Adrien Saddier at Wentworth.

Alex Noren says he'll be taking his clubs to America after winning the BMW PGA Championship - but only because he needs to take them home to Florida.

The Swede won the DP World Tour's flagship event for the second time in his career on Sunday at a soggy Wentworth.

Sweden's Noren, 43, finished on 19-under par alongside Frenchman Adrien Saddier.

The 43-year-old came up trumps on the first play-off hole, chipping close for a gimme birdie whilst Saddier could only manage a par.

Noren last won the BMW PGA Championship in 2017.

He told Sky Sports Golf he'll be taking his clubs to the United States next week ahead of Europe's reconnaissance trip, but only because he needs to take them home.

Other players are more deserving of the opportunity to play, he said, and it's unlikely he'll be called up to play in the event one of the dozen gets injured.

"I'll take my clubs this time but take it home to Florida," Noren said.

"I think the other guys have played better than me throughout the year.

"I've had a great result now the last month but it came a little bit too late.

"I think the guys on the team is going to be fantastic.

"I'm really looking forward to that match more than, I don't know, in a long time."

Noren has been named as one of Luke Donald's five vice-captains for the 2025 matches.

Elsewhere, Tyrrell Hatton, Patrick Reed, Viktor Hovland and Matthew Fitzpatrick finished inside the top-10.

Jon Rahm finished 13th on 13-under, while Masters champion Rory McIlroy shot a final-round 65 to finish among a group of five that finished on 12-under.

Reaction from the winner...

Due to the weather conditions, there'll be no prize giving ceremony on the green.

Noren tells Sky Sports he's full of emotion.

"I thought I hit (my second shot) in the water and then I got a good break with my ball sitting nicely," he says.

"I hit my iron shots way better the first three days, I was struggling a bit today.

"Sometimes it comes easy and sometimes you've got to fight. He [Adrien] was better tee to green today."

Alex Noren wins BMW PGA Championship

Alex Noren makes absolutely no mistake and is the 2025 BMW PGA Championship winner.

Congratulations to the Swede. A superb performance!

Saddier misses!

Saddier is quick to play his putt - and misses low.

He holds his nerve to hole his par putt back up the hill.

Over to you Alex...

Advantage Noren

Saddier is first to play. Once again, he doesn't mess about. His chip lands next to the flag, but doesn't spin and trundles to the back edge.

What can Noren manage? It's perfect. That's a gimme birdie.

16:40
Saddier and Noren go for it

Saddier is up first. He's got his 3-wood out. He has 258 yards.

This is a brave shot. It's going left towards the water, but stops short in the thick rough next to the green.

Noren is going for it too! He hates it. But his ball ends up in a similar position.

We'll have a wedge-off over the stream.

Who has the best lie?

Cracking tee shots

Alex Noren has the honour.

The Swede's tee shot heads towards the fairway bunkers but stops short in the first cut. That's fine.

Adrien Saddier follows Noren on a similar line but his ball stops in the fairway.

The Frenchman had the courage to go for it in regulation -  one presumes he will do the same again.

Players heading back to the 18th

Right, Adrien Saddier and Alex Noren have both signed their cards.

They're now heading back to the 18th tee box.

You get the feeling both want to finish this as quickly as possible. It's cold and miserable.

Saddier misses!

Noren -19, Saddier -19, Hatton -15 (18*)

Over to you Adrien.

He's into his putt quickly.

It's also low! We're going to have a play-off.

16:21
Noren misses

Noren -19, Saddier -19, Hatton -15 (18*)

Alex Noren goes first. He's up and out of his posture quickly. That was always low.

Saddier has a putt for the title...

Tyrrell Hatton finishes on 15-under

The TV cameras gave up on Tyrrell Hatton on the 18th. He closes with a par to sign for a 70.

16:19
Decent effort

Noren -19, Saddier -19, Hatton -15 (18*)

Saddier has a clear line to the flag. The only problem is the lie. It's bare, and there is a twig next to his ball.

He makes clean contact, though, and has a similar distance to Noren for his birdie.

16:17
Door ajar for Saddier if he has a shot

Noren -19, Saddier -19, Hatton -15 (18*)

Alex Noren sends his third into the green. A grunt from the Swede. He's not happy.

It's okay, but not as close as he would have liked.

He has a putt for a birdie.

Over to you, Adrien.

Saddier goes right!

Noren -19, Saddier -19, Hatton -15 (18*)

Saddier has 254 yards to the pin. That's a big wallop in this rain.

He goes right! Where has that gone?

Looks like the lie is fine but how is the angle?

Advantage Noren, I'd say...

16:11
Noren lays up

Noren -19, Saddier -19, Hatton -15 (18*)

Alex Noren is up first. He's about 280 yards away. In these conditions, it's simply too far. He lays up nicely - that's a good angle to the flag.

Saddier is waiting for the group ahead to finish...

16:08
Reed finishes with a birdie

Reed -16 (66), Ferguson -15 (67), Fitzpatrick -15 (67)

Patrick Reed makes birdie at the last to cap off an excellent week.

Ferguson pays the price for a poor tee shot but it's been a terrific performance from the Scot.

Fitzpatrick signs for a 67. He'll head to the Ryder Cup full of confidence.

Wedge-off?

Noren -19, Saddier -19, Hatton -15 (18*)

Here we go.

Saddier is up first with driver. It's a beauty, straight down the middle. He might be able to reach in two.

Noren's tee shot is further left but it's fine. The Swede might also think about having a crack.

Hatton flirts with the rough on the right but it's in the short stuff.

15:59
Extra holes?

Noren -19, Saddier -19, Hatton -15 (17)

It's now a two-horse race.

Because of Ewen Ferguson's issues up ahead, the final group will have to wait a few minutes before hitting their tee shots at the 18th.

Who is your money on? Noren? Saddier? A play-off?

My money is on extra holes.

15:55
Dramatic finish incoming...

Noren -19, Saddier -19, Hatton -15 (17)

All three players find the green at par-5 17th in three strokes.

Tyrrell Hatton goes first and is quickly walking after his ball, most likely making more contributions to the swear jar. That's a par.

Noren's approach was average by his standards. Can he convert? Yes! It drops. What a time for a birdie.

How are your nerves, Adrien? He's up to the task!

All square going down the last...

Rai misses

Rai -16 (66)

Aaron Rai can't convert his birdie putt at the 18th.

That's a 66, though, and he sets the target of 16-under.

15:44
Ferguson collapses

Ferguson -16 (18*)

What have we just witnessed?

Ewen Ferguson hits his tee shot at the 18th way, way right into the trees.

That'll be a re-load.

15:42
Fitzpatrick birdie

Fitzpatrick -15, Ferguson -16, Reed -15 (17)

Patrick Reed misses a short birdie putt at the 17th. He really needed that.

Ewen Ferguson does well to save his par after hitting his third short and right of the pin.

Fitzpatrick is feeling it. He fires a laser to three feet and knocks it in.

Average from Rai

A. Rai -16 (18*)

Aaron Rai is forced to lay up as he's blocked out.

The Englishman is eyeing up his approach into the 18th green, but it's well short.

15:36
Hatton needs huge finish

Noren -18, Saddier -18, Hatton -15 (16)

Noren is first up on 16th green -  it's tracking, but short!

Hatton misses his and taps in for par.

And Saddier? It kisses the left edge...

Hatton is probably needing two eagles to finish if he's to have any chance.

15:31
Three looks at birdie

Noren -18, Saddier -18, Hatton -15 (16*)

Saddier is first up at the 16th. It's a beauty.

Hatton tugs his approach but is still fairly close. His ball settles on the apron.

Noren is slightly further away but still with a decent look at his three.

Pivotal moment coming up...

Rai misses a chance

Rai -16 (18*)

Aaron Rai lays up at the par-5 17th and sends his approach to the back left of the green.

It's an outside look at best and it doesn't drop.

His tee shot at the 18th finds the rough...

Not the finish he wanted.
