Jordan Gumberg claimed his second DP World Tour title with a composed one-shot victory at the Hainan Classic.

The American, who only retained his playing privileges thanks to a dramatic hole-out eagle at the Genesis Championship last October, completed a remarkable turnaround with a wire-to-wire win at Mission Hills Haikou.

A closing 70 secured a 19-under-par total, edging out Spain’s Jorge Campillo by a single stroke and marking Gumberg’s second victory in two years following his breakthrough at the SDC Championship.

Starting the final round tied for the lead, Gumberg and Campillo exchanged early birdies, while Dylan Frittelli quickly fell back after a bogey at the first.

Gumberg briefly slipped with a dropped shot at the third but responded with a birdie at the par-five sixth. Campillo surged ahead after a birdie at the eighth, only to stumble with consecutive bogeys that handed momentum back.

Frittelli’s challenge faded after a four-over front nine, leaving a head-to-head battle between Gumberg and Campillo. The American extended his advantage with a birdie at the 11th, but Campillo responded immediately to stay within one.

Further back, Marcus Armitage climbed into solo third with a fourth birdie of the day, while Adrian Otaegui posted a superb bogey-free 64 to set the clubhouse target at 15 under.

Home hope Wenyi Ding briefly threatened after a strong outward nine but fell away with three double bogeys in four holes.

The final pairing traded pars down the closing stretch, setting up a tense finish. With birdie chances slipping by, Gumberg held his nerve and produced a tidy up-and-down at the last to seal victory.

Emerging 17-year-old Yanhan Zhou impressed with a closing 69 to share third alongside Armitage and Otaegui, finishing as the leading Chinese player.

Afterwards, Gumberg admitted the win felt surreal following last season’s narrow escape.

“I don’t have words right now. After how last year ended, this is amazing,” said Gumberg.

“Jorge was unbelievable down the stretch — the pressure was constant. It was a real nail-biter.”

Reflecting on his progress, Gumberg credited both personal growth and his support team.

“I’ve matured, and so has my game. Having my best friend on the bag and my wife with me every week makes a huge difference.”
