Tyrrell Hatton makes LIV Golf 2.0 admission as future remains unclear ahead of Dunhill Links

Tyrrell Hatton has revealed that there are "enough people in the background" working on matters surrounding LIV Golf as uncertainty continues over the league's future beyond this season.

Hatton, 34, was pressed for an update on his LIV Golf situation ahead of this week's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews, where he is a record three-time winner.

The eight-time DP World Tour winner remains a dual member of the DP World Tour and LIV Golf, but his position for 2027 and beyond remains unclear amid major changes to the breakaway league.

While Hatton did not provide a definitive update on his own playing future, his latest comments offered an insight into the current situation.

Asked whether there was any update on LIV Golf 2.0, Hatton simply replied: "There's nothing I can add on to that."

He was then asked whether he felt an update on the future of LIV Golf needed to come sooner rather than later.

Hatton pointed towards his busy schedule on the DP World Tour and suggested that there are people working behind the scenes while he concentrates on his immediate playing commitments.

"As I said at the British Masters, I've got tournaments on the DP World Tour here for this week, next week in Madrid and then Abu Dhabi and Dubai," said Hatton, who lies 43rd in the DP World Tour Rankings. 

"So I've got enough to get ready for and enough people in the background doing what they need to do and that's all there is to it."

Hatton's comments at St Andrews provide further indication that discussions surrounding LIV's next chapter are continuing away from the public eye, although the Ryder Cup hero offered no indication of what his own position might be for 2027 and beyond.

The future of LIV Golf has become increasingly uncertain after the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) pulled the plug on financing the breakaway league beyond this season.

A new LIV model is expected to emerge for next season, with BC Partners linked to the proposed next phase of the league, although no official announcement has yet confirmed the final structure or the playing commitments of the league's leading stars.

That has inevitably led to questions over the futures of several high-profile players, including Hatton, Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau.

For now, Hatton is focusing on finishing his DP World Tour season strongly.

The Englishman will tee it up this week at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, which takes place across the Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns.

Hatton has enjoyed remarkable success in the event, having won the famous tournament three times, and is now looking to add another title to his record.

Hatton was also asked about seeing a sizeable LIV contingent competing in Scotland this week, including fellow Englishmen Lee Westwood and Ian Poulter.

The current World No.24 welcomed the return of the two former Ryder Cup stars to the DP World Tour after years away from the circuit. 

"Yeah, those guys have had amazing careers. It's good to see them playing this week," Hatton said.

"Obviously they have not played that much over the last four or five years for various reasons but I think of what they have achieved and the amount of tournaments they have played on the DP World Tour."

Westwood and Poulter's appearances add further interest to a Dunhill Links that features 22 LIV Golf players.

For now, Hatton is leaving the LIV Golf discussions to those working behind the scenes while he focuses on his DP World Tour commitments.

But with LIV Golf 2.0 still taking shape, the Englishman’s future beyond 2026 remains one of the biggest unanswered questions heading into 2027.
