With no sign of a deal anytime soon with the PGA Tour, news has emerged today that LIV Golf's investors, the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), has now taken its funding of the breakaway league to $5 billion.

The latest update was provided in yesterday's Money in Sport newsletter.

According to the latest financial report, LIV Golf Investments has twice increased its authorised share capital in 2025, once in January and then again around the time of The Masters last month for a total of $674.3m.

That is nearly double what Jon Rahm is estimated to have earned when he signed a five-year deal with LIV Golf last season.

In total, the spend by LIV Golf Investments has now soared to $4.58 billion.

Just shy of $2 billion has reportedly been pumped into the LIV Golf League since January 2024.

And there appears no signs of easing off the gas, with Money in Sport projecting an increase in PIF investment of $5 billion by the end of 2025.

Reuters reports: "With a reference to $82m in revenue from January to October 2024, PIF's filing included the first time a consolidated revenue figure for LIV Golf has been publicly disclosed."

The report adds: "The filing shows the latest authorizations come with three conditons: a minimum number of events this season, a minimum revenue and a finalised TV deal with Fox Sports."

There had been heavy rumours in the golf industry that PIF was about to strike a deal with the PGA Tour in a bid to help unify the professional game once again.

But that no longer appears the case, at least at this very moment in time.

Rory McIlroy admitted last month after his Masters victory that there is no need for the PGA Tour and PIF to rush to complete a peace deal.

Although the latest member of the career grand slam club does hope a deal can be struck in the future to bring the world's best golfers together again.

The world's best will get together again at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club from 15-18 May.

Bryson DeChambeau is the lead hope for a LIV victory at the US PGA, fresh off landing his LIV hat-trick in Korea last week.
