Rory McIlroy to join LIV Golf, Cam Smith bins mullet... it can only be April 1st
Rory McIlroy to LIV Golf, Cam Smith bins mullet and Talor Gooch accepts special invite into The Masters - the worst golf stories from the industry on April Fool's Day.
The golf world woke up to complete mayhem on social media this morning as a number of shock stories hit the top of our timelines, none bigger than Flushing It's scoop that Rory McIlroy will be joining LIV Golf after The Masters.
With McIlroy recently easing his stance on all things LIV Golf and Saudi Arabian investment in the game, Flushing It had some fun by confirming the World No.2 will join the breakaway league after The Masters.
The account then revealed McIlroy would be setting up a new LIV Golf team called 'Shark GC' to be owned by CEO Greg Norman.
But of course, if you needed any reminding, today is 1 April, known as April Fool's Day.
Multiple sources close to the player have confirmed that Rory McIlroy WILL join LIV Golf after the Masters. It’s understood he will join a new expansion team called “Shark GC” to be owned by non-playing captain Greg Norman. This is a dramatic reversal from the vocal LIV critic. pic.twitter.com/fIhRv9Osck

Other eye-catching headlines saw MyGolfSpy confirm Talor Gooch had accepted a special invite into The Masters from 11-14 April, and Ripper GC let their fans know captain Cameron Smith had got rid of his long-time mullet ahead of LIV Golf Miami this week.
In fact, Golfweek believed Ripper GC that they ran an article on it, only to delete the story hours later.

Here at GolfMagic, we thought we would join in on the fun by publishing an article on orange golf balls leading to lower scores.
Well done if you realised that was another April Fool's Joke.
If not, why not purchase some orange golf balls and see if they do actually work?!
Elsewhere, golf brands got in on the fun, too.
