Tour winner takes aim at LIV Golf returnees: "They slammed the tour for years"
Ewen Ferguson also stated he believes some LIV Golf players might not need to go to qualifying school.
DP World Tour winner Ewen Ferguson has taken aim at several LIV Golf players bound for a return to the European-based circuit.
The breakaway tour's future is looking increasingly uncertain after several star names confirmed they want no part of the league's new era, dubbed LIV Golf 2.0.
Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund withdrew its backing from LIV in April - having injected more than $5bn (£3.8bn) - leading to the league filing for bankruptcy protection in the United States last month.
London-based credit firm, BC Partners, has emerged as the frontrunner to finance LIV and has already agreed a $300m package to keep the league going.
But LIV players have been told they have a soft deadline of 25 October to confirm whether or not they want to stay.
A mass exodus is gathering pace, with the likes of Ryder Cup legend Ian Poulter and former Open champion Louis Oosthuizen confirming their departures.
The New York Times also reported on Friday that Tyrrell Hatton will leave LIV Golf, following in the footsteps of his former Legion XIII teammate Jon Rahm.
Reacting to the latest developments on X, the aforementioned Ferguson welcomed the return of some "really cool" LIV players.
But he added: "But [it is] hilarious how some of them slammed the tour for so long, not one good thing to say about it, now it's the best thing since sliced bread and feels like coming home."
That some LIV players are clamouring to return to the DP World Tour is no great surprise.
At the beginning of the month, the European-based circuit confirmed that players who sign up to LIV 2.0 will not be allowed to become members in 2027.
DP World Tour chief executive, Guy Kinnings, stated players must now "make a choice" regarding where they play.
It marked a significantly tougher stance than in recent seasons.
The move also has implications for some hoping to make the European Ryder Cup team in 2027.
Only players who are members of the DP World Tour can play for Europe in the biennial clash against the United States.
The deadline to commit to the DP World Tour is next month.
"We have rules and regulations which are there to protect our tour and which our members must all abide by," Kinnings previously told BBC Sport.
