AIG Women's Open Final Leaderboard: Miyu Yamashita holds off Charley Hull to win first major at Royal Porthcawl
AIG Women's Open Final Leaderboard: Japan's Miyu Yamashita wins her first career major title at Royal Porthcawl in Wales.
Japan's Miyu Yamashita has won her first major title at the AIG Women's Open after a solid final-round display at Royal Porthcawl.
Yamashita did what she had to do on Sunday and carded a steady 2-under 70 to prevail by two shots on 11-under par.
England's Charley Hull and Japan's Minami Katsu finished in a tie for second on 9-under par.
Yamashita, 24, not only captured her first major title but also her first victory on the LPGA.
She has, however, won an impressive 13 times on the LPGA of Japan Tour.
The Japanese star was ranked 15th in the Rolex Rankings on the eve of the final major of the season.
She will now break into the top 10 when the rankings update on Monday morning.
Prior to winning the 2025 AIG Women's Open, Yamashita's best result in a major was a T2 at the 2024 Women's PGA.
Yamashita becomes the fourth different Japanese player to win a major over the past two years, joining Mao Saigo, Yuka Saso and Ayaka Furue.
Rio Takeda and A Lim Kim rounded out the top five on 7-under par.
England's Lottie Woad finished 4-under par in a tie for eighth.

Spain's Paula Martin Sampedro wins the Smyth Salver for low amateur at the 2025 AIG Women's Open.
She rolls in a birdie on the par-5 18th to come home in 30 shots and card a 68, which is the low round of Sunday.
An outstanding round of golf and she will be rewarded with silverware later today.
Martin Sampedro won the Smyth Salver by a whopping 13 shots with her compatriot Carla Bernat Escuder on 9-over par.

She's now three shots clear as a result of her playing partner making a second consecutive bogey.
Kim and Hull are three shots back in a tie for second on 7-under par.
Yamashita and Hull are seeking a first career major, while Kim is looking to win her second having won the 2020 US Women's Open.

She stiffed her tee shot to four feet and then rolled in the putt on the left side.
It's her first birdie of the day and she's now just two shots behind Yamashita, who leads alone after a bogey from Kim on the 3rd.
Huge chance here for Hull to capture her first major title.

Katsu clattered her tee shot into a spectator and she was then forced to chip out into the fairway.
She missed the green with her approach shot but then incredibly chipped in for par.
Katsu remains 5-under par and four shots off the pace.
