Kai Trump provides health update after major setback to her golf career

Kai Trump says she is embracing a setback to her golf career after undergoing surgery on her left wrist.

The granddaughter of Donald Trump announced the operation on social media on Wednesday after sustaining an injury during her first tournament of the season with the University of Miami golf team.

The freshman did not disclose the severity of the injury or indicate how long she would be out of action following the procedure.

The operation comes as Miami have made a strong start to their season, winning two of their three tournaments and finishing runners-up in the other to climb to seventh in the national rankings.

"While I had hoped to avoid surgery, after talks with my family, coaches, and athletic training staff I know I made the best decision for my long-term health and my future in the game I love," Kai wrote.

"It's certainly not how I envisioned the next few months, but sometimes the journey takes an unexpected turn, and I'm choosing to embrace this one with patience, and a whole lot of determination."

Kai, one of nine players listed on Miami's roster, said her focus was now on recovery as she looks to return to the course.

"For now, it's all about healing, and trusting the process," she added. "I can't wait to be back with my team, doing what I love."

Kai made her debut in a professional event in November 2025 after receiving a sponsor' exemption to compete in The ANNIKA.

The LPGA Tour event is hosted by multiple major champion Annika Sorenstam.

The U.S. President did not attend the tournament because of other commitments, but his absence did not appear to concern his granddaughter.

"He's running the world right now, so a little busy," she said at the time.

The pair also play regularly golf together, although Kai has remained tight-lipped about who usually wins their closely contested matches.

"We play a lot. We have a great time out there. We're always on the same team as well," she said.
