Ludvig Aberg's preparations for this week's Open were dealt a huge blow.

Ludvig Aberg has revealed his preparations for The Open got off to an utterly nightmarish start.

The 26-year-old Swede arrives in Royal Birkdale with an outside chance of lifting the Claret Jug on Sunday.

Elite ball-striking will be key for the champion golfer of the year and Aberg has already demonstrated in his career so far that he's one of the very best in his department.

He has also shown that he can hang with the big boys, finishing runner-up at The Masters on his first ever major start in 2024 and holding his nerve in two Ryder Cups.

In theory, Aberg really is a major champion in waiting.

But to be a factor this week Aberg will need one thing: his clubs.

Aberg told George Harper Jr during a segment on Live at the Range that when he arrived in the United Kingdom for the Scottish Open and the final men's major of the year his clubs were lost for three days.

When they finally turned up, things got worse.

"When I pulled it out my driver was snapped in half," Aberg said.

And that wasn't the only problem.

"My Foresight, the quad that I use, was cracked in half," he added.

When Harper joked that his numbers were off, Aberg created a new meme:

Fantastic.

Aberg is enjoying a solid, if unspectacular, season so far.

He's racked up five top-five finishes on the PGA Tour, which included the PGA Championship in May.

He is making his third appearance at The Open this week. On his two previous visits, he missed the cut at Royal Troon and shared 23rd place 12 months ago at Royal Portrush.
