The Open continues this weekend at Royal Birkdale.

After 36 holes of the final men's major of the year, Australia's Lucas Herbert has a two-shot lead.

The 30-year-old LIV Golf star tore round the Southport links on Friday, carding a stunning 62 to reach 8-under par.

It was a score that saw him equal the lowest-ever round in men's major championship history.

In truth, he probably should have broken the record and the golfer admitted as such after his round, explaining he felt a mixture of pride and disappointment.

He also mentioned that he thought about carding a 62 or lower after only his third hole

Herbert leads American duo Jackson Suber, Cameron Young and Ryan Gerard by two strokes at the halfway stage.

Bryson DeChambeau thought he had moved to within a shot of the lead, but he was assessed a two-shot penalty after the round for a rules violation on the 5th hole and he fell back to 5-under par in a share of fifth, three shots off the pace.

Despite initial fears he might WD from The Open as a result of the two-shot penalty, DeChambeau has confirmed his participation on the weekend.

DeChambeau will tee it up alongside Sam Burns at 3.30pm in the third last pairing at Royal Birkdale on Saturday.
