Tiger Woods took to social media to show his appreciation for Tommy Fleetwood after spotting the Englishman wearing Sun Day Red apparel during the second round of The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale on Friday.

The 15-time major champion posted on X while Fleetwood was out on the course, with the World No. 9 battling to keep himself in contention for a maiden major title in front of his home fans in Southport.

"Lookin' good out there @TommyFleetwood," Woods wrote.

Fleetwood, 35, was still playing when Woods, 50, shared the message, but it remains to be seen whether Fleetwood interacts with the message after the round tonight.

Woods and Fleetwood share a close friendship, especially as both TaylorMade staffers and TGL players.

England's Fleetwood has already enjoyed tremendous support throughout the week at Royal Birkdale, with thousands of spectators following his every shot as he bids to win the Claret Jug on home soil.

The support for Fleetwood is expected to get even louder over the weekend, as it will for other British players such as Rory McIlroy.

Despite establishing himself as one of the world's most consistent players, Fleetwood is still searching for his first major title.

Many consider Fleetwood is the best active player without a major win to his name.

While Fleetwood has won eight times on the DP World Tour, his biggest career triumph came at the end of the 2025 season when he claimed the Tour Championship to secure the FedEx Cup title on the PGA Tour.

Is Tommy Fleetwood set to join Sun Day Red?

Fleetwood has attracted plenty of attention with his apparel choices this season.

After ending his long-running partnership with Nike Golf earlier this season, he has become a free agent and has mixed clothing from several brands in recent months.

One of Fleetwood's favoured clothing brands right now appears to be Sun Day Red, the premium apparel and footwear brand Woods officially announced on 12 February 2024 following the end of his iconic 27-year partnership with Nike.

Developed in partnership with TaylorMade, Sun Day Red officially launched its first collection on 1 May 2024 and has continued to expand its presence on the professional tours.

Fleetwood has worn the brand at several events in recent months, including this week's Open Championship, and Woods' public endorsement is likely to fuel further speculation over whether the Englishman could eventually join the Sun Day Red stable.

At this stage, however, no partnership has been announced.

Woods remains sidelined from competitive golf as he continues his recovery after stepping away from the game earlier this year.

The former World No. 1 recently made his first public appearance since then when speaking ahead of the PGA Tour's announcement of significant schedule changes that will come into effect from the 2028 season.

There is still no timetable for Woods' return to tournament golf, although many fans will hope to see the three-time Champion Golfer of the Year back in action when The Open returns to St Andrews next July.

The Old Course has long been regarded by Woods as his favourite venue in the world, making it a fitting stage for a potential comeback.

Some even consider next year's 155th Open could prove the perfect final tournament for Woods to bow out of competition for good.
