Xander Schauffele held off a spirited challenge from Max Greyserman to clinch a one-shot victory at the Baycurrent Classic in Japan.

Schauffele returned to the winners' enclosure for the first time since The Open at Royal Troon last year, firing a final-round 64 in a low-scoring finale at Yokohama Country Club.

The US Ryder Cup star carded eight birdies in benign conditions to post a winning score of 19-under par, and he admitted afterwards he did have doubts over getting back to his best after an injury-hit 2025.

Schauffele was sidelined for over two months at the start of the year after suffering an intercostal strain and a cartilage tear, and he has played a fairly-limited schedule since returning to action.

"I definitely had doubts," he said. "I think every player in any sport at some point in time you feel like you're on top of the world and then you feel like, not that you've lost it but you feel less confident.

"I have a really good team around me, they pick me up when I'm down. You know, this is really special for me, and sooner than I thought, to be fair.

"I was running out of events in 2025 to sort of put my mark on it. I'm sure when I look back on 2025 at the end of my career I'll smile and think it was a great year.

"It's nice to end this year with a bang. You know, I turn 32 this month so hopefully I catch some stride or get into a good stride here into my mid-30s."

Greyserman came within inches of holing out from 182 yards at the last as he returned a 65 which ensured outright 2nd place ahead of Michael Thorbjornsen, with both denied their maiden PGA Tour titles by the composed Schauffele.

"Max and Michael played very solid golf," added Schauffele, who has now won twice in Japan having claimed Olympic gold in Tokyo four years ago.

"We were neck and neck through 15, 16 holes, then Max almost holed out on the last hole. It was a very satisfying win because they're great players."

England's Matt Wallace closed with a 67 to post a top-10 finish on 11-under, while Rasmus and Nicolai Hojgaard were a shot further back along with Schauffele's Ryder Cup team-mate, Collin Morikawa.
