Scottie Scheffler has surged into a commanding four-shot lead heading into the final round of the Memorial Tournament.

Scheffler, 27, carded a 1-under 71 at Muirfield Village to move to 10-under par.

That sees the runaway World No.1 lead by four shots over Adam Hadwin, Collin Morikawa and Sepp Straka.

Scheffler is bidding to win a fifth title in his last eight tournaments, and an 11th career title on the PGA Tour

The red-hot American looked to be running away with things early on in the third round with three bogeys on his first six holes, but he came unstuck with a remarkable triple-bogey seven on the par-4 9th to fall back into a tie for the lead with Hadwin.

But that triple seemed to reignite Scheffler as he proceeded to birdie the 10th, 12th and 15th to race clear of his rivals.

He did three-putt from long range for bogey on the par-4 18th, but it still sees Scheffler with a commanding four-shot lead heading into the final round on Sunday.

Morikawa and Straka both carded rounds of 68 to move into a tie for second with Hadwin, who bogeyed the last for a level-par 72.

Xander Schauffele (71) and Ludvig Aberg (72) are in a tie for fifth on 4-under par.

Elsewhere, Rory McIlroy carded a 1-over 73 to fall back to 2-under par in T11.

Viktor Hovland came back in a disastrous 42 to card a round of 77 and fall back into the pack on 1-under par in T14.
