Jason Day explains why he’s ‘QUIT’ — and what golf taught him about it
Former World No.1 Jason Day reveals what he’s stepping away from as the new PGA Tour season begins.
Jason Day raised eyebrows across social media last week when posting a cryptic message declaring that he had “quit”. For 13-time PGA Tour winner and former World No.1, the timing alone was enough to spark speculation.
The reality, however, was rather less dramatic — and very on-brand for a golfer who has long spoken about balance away from the course.
Day’s announcement coincided with Quitter’s Day, the point in January when many abandon their New Year’s resolutions.
Thankfully for PGA Tour golf fans, Day, who won the 2015 US PGA, wasn't quitting the game or indeed heading across to LIV Golf.
The Australian star instead revealed he was officially calling time on something far more relatable: DIY lawn care.
Partnering with TruGreen, America’s largest lawn care provider, Day is encouraging homeowners to step back from amateur efforts and leave it to the professionals.
For Day, the message aligns closely with the lessons golf has reinforced throughout his career — trust, preparation and having the right support system around you.
"Golf has taught me that having the right team behind you makes all the difference, and that applies to my lawn too," said Day.
"Between practicing, traveling and spending time with my family, I don't want to waste time guessing at what my lawn needs.
"That's why I am partnering with TruGreen, to show golf fans, that they too can quit DIY lawn care and still enjoy a lawn that looks like a fairway."

The partnership leans into a familiar comparison for golfers: tour-level results don’t come from guesswork.
TruGreen, which treats more than 2.3 million lawns across North America, offers customised plans and local expertise designed to deliver consistent, course-like conditions — without homeowners having to lift a finger.
As part of the campaign, TruGreen is offering new customers their first lawn care service for $9.95 between 12-26 January, encouraging fans to “call it quits” alongside Day.
TruGreen Chief Marketing Officer Alyssa Puketza says the timing is intentional.
"We know people start the year with great intentions, and it doesn't take long for everyday life to get busy," said Alyssa Puketza, Chief Marketing Officer at TruGreen.
"Quitter's Day is a natural moment to reassess what's actually working. With Jason Day's help, we're reminding people that it's okay to hand off one big responsibility and trust the pros at TruGreen to take care of their lawn with consistent, high-quality results all season long."
For Day, whose schedule is split between tournament golf, travel and family life, the appeal is simple: focus energy where it matters most — and let experts handle the rest.
Day gets his PGA Tour campaign underway at this week's American Express in California.
