After a difficult spell following a strong run that delivered winners at 35/1, 22/1 and 12/1 over the past three months, GolfMagic's expert tipster Andy Roberts is aiming to return to profit at one of the PGA Tour's most prestigious events.

Last week's selections, Ludvig Åberg and Justin Thomas, finished T17 and T13 respectively at the Charles Schwab Challenge, while Russell Henley – a player regularly highlighted in these previews throughout the season – surged to victory for his sixth PGA Tour title.

Attention now turns to the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, the iconic Jack Nicklaus-designed layout that continues to rank among the toughest tests on the PGA Tour schedule.

This limited 72-man tournament marks the penultimate Signature Event of the season.

As a result there is a huge $20m prize purse on the line, with $4m going to the winner.

The par-72 course stretches to 7,569 yards and features penal rough, small undulating bentgrass greens and water hazards on 11 holes.

Last year's scoring average of 73.41, more than one stroke over par, underlines the challenge facing this week's elite field.

World number one Scottie Scheffler arrives as a red-hot 7/2 favourite after winning the previous two editions of the Memorial.

He finished eight-under par here in 2024 and three shots better in 2025.

While Scheffler remains the man to beat, Roberts believes there is greater value elsewhere in the market with two players priced at 18/1 and 20/1.

Let's dive in...

the Memorial Tournament 2026: Expert Picks

Xander Schauffele

Xander Schauffele (18/1)

Schauffele looks one of the standout value plays in this week's field.

The two-time major champion arrives at Muirfield Village refreshed after taking a two-week break following a T7 finish at the PGA Championship. Although his 2026 season has been somewhat inconsistent by his lofty standards, there are clear signs that his game is trending in the right direction.

The American has recorded five top-10 finishes this season and has finished inside the top 12 in five of his last six starts. His statistical profile is equally encouraging, ranking ninth on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Total while sitting comfortably inside the top 20 for both Strokes Gained: Off The Tee and Strokes Gained: Tee To Green.

Course form also strengthens the case.

Since missing the cut in 2018, Schauffele has produced finishes of 14th, 13th, 11th, 18th, 24th, eighth and 25th at the Memorial Tournament.

He also finished 14th at Muirfield Village during the Workday Charity Open in 2020.

While those results do not include a genuine title challenge, they demonstrate a consistent comfort level on a demanding layout that rewards elite ball-striking. Had the putter cooperated a little more in previous visits, Schauffele could easily have contended for the trophy.

With his game showing signs of peaking again and a busy summer approaching, including the U.S. Open in two weeks, the world number 10 looks attractively priced at 18/1.

Russell Henley (20/1)

Henley arrives at Muirfield Village brimming with confidence following a dramatic victory at last week's Charles Schwab Challenge.

The American appeared out of contention with three holes remaining before producing a stunning finish. Birdies on the 16th, 17th and 18th forced a playoff with Eric Cole, and Henley completed the comeback by splitting the fairway and firing an approach to five feet before converting for victory.

Confidence is often everything in professional golf, and few players will arrive in Ohio feeling better about their game.

Henley's strengths appear perfectly suited to Muirfield Village. While he lacks the raw power of some of his rivals, he remains one of the most accurate players on the PGA Tour and continues to excel with his iron play, short game and course management.

That skillset is particularly valuable on a course where driving accuracy and precise approach play are often more important than distance. Missing greens at Muirfield Village can quickly lead to dropped shots due to the thick rough and severe green complexes, making scrambling another critical factor.

Statistically, Henley enters the week in excellent shape. He ranks 13th in Strokes Gained: Total and leads the PGA Tour in driving accuracy, finding 72 per cent of fairways. If the putter remains as hot as it was during Sunday's closing stretch at Colonial, he could prove difficult to stop.

The course history is encouraging too.

Henley finished tied fifth at last year's Memorial Tournament, was sixth in 2013 and tied seventh at the Workday Charity Open in 2020.

Last week's victory also felt like an important milestone following a frustrating period after his Ryder Cup disappointment. Nearly nine months removed from that experience, Henley appears back to his best and once again looks every inch a world-class performer.

At 20/1, Roberts believes the world number five represents one of the strongest value opportunities in the market.

The Verdict

Scheffler is the obvious favourite and deservedly commands respect given his outstanding record at Muirfield Village.

Rory McIlroy also headlines a stacked field packed with the PGA Tour's biggest names.

However, from a betting perspective, Roberts is siding with two proven performers who arrive with strong form, encouraging statistics and solid course records.

Selections:

  • Xander Schauffele – 18/1
  • Russell Henley – 20/1

Many bookmakers are offering enhanced each-way terms of a quarter of the odds for five places, providing additional appeal for punters looking beyond the tournament favourite.
