With the annual 3M Open set to take place in Minneapolis this weekend, the PGA Tour has announced that the title sponsor's former chairman and CEO, Michael F. Roman, will take on a key new role on the PGA Tour Policy Board.

Roman was voted in as a new Independent Director on the Policy board in late June, and will begin working in that capacity effective immediately.

The new appointment comes after the departure of Venture Capitalist Mary Meeker, who completed her tenure on the board late last year.

"Mike brings valuable perspective to our Policy Board as a highly respected global business leader with experience leading one of the world’s most recognized companies," said Joe Gorder, Chairman, PGA Tour Boards.

"He has demonstrated a unique ability throughout his career to drive innovation, navigate complex global business environments and guide organizations through significant transformation and strategic change. His expertise, leadership and perspective will be a tremendous asset as we continue positioning the PGA Tour for long-term success."

Roman served for more than 35 years at 3M, one of the world's largest technology and manufacturing companies, rising to become the company's CEO in 2018. He retired in 2024, stepping into an executive chairman role which saw him oversee the company's strategic direction as part of its board of directors.

Roman's tenure saw 3M became one of the PGA Tour's closest sponsorship partners, the two companies first partnering up in 1993 before 3M became the title sponsor of the Tour's Minneapolis stop in 2019.

Roman also serves on the board of directors of Abbott Laboratories, a multinational healthcare company.

“I am honored to join the PGA Tour's Policy Board during such an important period for the organization,” said Roman in a statement.
