Ryder Cup hopeful forced out of The CJ Cup Byron Nelson
European Ryder Cup hopeful Matt Wallace has been forced to withdraw from The CJ Cup Byron Nelson on the PGA Tour due to injury.
European Ryder Cup hopeful Matt Wallace was forced to withdraw from The CJ Cup Byron Nelson on the PGA Tour during a weather-interrupted second round at TPC Craig Ranch.
Wallace, 35, opened with a disappointing 1-over 72 on Thursday.
The fiery Englishman returned on Friday, and unlike the weather, started brightly with a birdie on the par-4 2nd.
But Wallace would then reel off three bogeys over the space of the next six holes to slide to 3-over par for the tournament.
That saw him positioned well outside the cut mark for the weekend.
Play was then suspended due to lightning in the area, and by that time Wallace had informed PGA Tour officials and his playing partners, Webb Simpson and Luke List, that he would be withdrawing from the event.
Wallace cited a neck injury as the official reason for his withdrawal from The CJ Cup Byron Nelson.

The WD is a bitter blow for Wallace, who is looking to pick up valuable ranking points in the race to make the European Ryder Cup team for the first time in his career.
Wallace, who many critics consider is made for the biennial matchplay contest as a result of his aggressive style of play, has come close to reaching the European Ryder Cup team a number of times in his career.
But the one-time PGA Tour winner has always fallen short of a pick.
Wallace is currently in ninth place in the European Ryder Cup standings.
The top six players following the completion of the Betfred British Masters on 24 August will automatically qualify for Luke Donald's team.
The Ryder Cup takes place at Bethpage Black in New York from 26-28 September.
Wallace, a five-time winner on the DP World Tour, will now look to recover from his neck injury ahead of a huge summer of golf.
The Englishman is currently ranked 86th in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR).
He started the year in 64th position.
Wallace has only chalked up one top-20 finish so far this season.
He failed to qualify for The Masters in April, and he is also not eligible right now to compete in the US PGA from 15-18 May.
As it stands at The CJ Cup Byron Nelson, it's home favourite and World No.1 Scottie Scheffler who still leads the way.
Scheffler eagled the par-5 18th, his 9th hole of round, to move to 12-under par for the tournament.
That was just before the horn blew for a suspension of play.
Despite winning nine times last season, Scheffler is still looking for his first win in 2025.
