Scottie Scheffler set for 'weird' showdown at PGA Tour's first play-off event
Scottie Scheffler is set to duke it out during the final round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship with his good friend Sam Burns and South Korea's Sungjae Im.
Scottie Scheffler is closing in on his second PGA Tour title of the season at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
The American, 30, has not been in the winner's circle since The American Express in January but will take a two-shot lead into the final round of the first leg of the PGA Tour's play-offs.
He signed for a 2-under 68 on moving day at TPC Southwind.
And he will begin the final round of the $20m event with a two-shot advantage over South Korea's Sungjae Im and his good friend Sam Burns.
"It's always a little weird just because I want him to have success so much and I think he wants the same for me," said Scheffler of his Ryder Cup teammate.
"Tomorrow we'll go out there and play our game and see where things finish up at the end of the day.
"It will be a competition like normal. It will be fun being out there with your friend but it's also a bit weird at the same time."

Scheffler hit the turn in level par.
He put circles on his card at the 11th and 12th before stretching his lead to three shots by knocking in a six-foot birdie putt at the par-5 16th.
Scheffler found the bunker with his approach at the par-4 16th and fatted his third, his golf ball coming to rest on the first cut of rough.
It led to his second bogey of the day.
He missed a golden opportunity to restore his lead down the last but his 10-foot birdie attempt just pulled up short.
Victory for Scheffler would represent his 21st PGA Tour title since his breakout 2022 campaign.
Meanwhile, reigning FedEx Cup champion Tommy Fleetwood will harbour slim hopes of catching Scheffler and is in a share of fourth alongside America's Jake Knapp on 8-under.
Viktor Hovland was nicely positioned after 36 holes but went backwards with a 2-over 74.
Rory McIlroy's miserable week continued and the Northern Irishman is currently 62nd in the 68-man field.
The Masters champion is making his first start since the 2026 Open this week and has shown considerable rust.
McIlroy once again struggled on the 18th hole, finding the water with his tee shot.
Across the week, the 37-year-old has played the closing hole in 5-over par.
His 2-over 74 on Saturday left him on 6-over par for the championship.
The FedEx St. Jude Championship is the first leg of the PGA Tour's postseason.
Only the top 50 in the standings at the conclusion of the tournament will advance to next week's BMW Championship at Bellerive Country Club.
The top 30 will contest the Tour Championship at East Lake.
