Ryder Cup star Sam Burns sends golf club into the crowd at Bethpage Black
US Ryder Cup star Sam Burns was seen gifting his 9-iron to a young fan in the crowd at Bethpage on Wednesday.
Sam Burns was seen launching one of his golf clubs into the crowd while warming up on the practice range ahead of the Ryder Cup on Wednesday.
It's believed Burns, 29, was handed a replacement Callaway Apex TCB 9-iron to his bag at Bethpage, which is why he suddenly had a spare club.
Either that, or he's just extremely confident about beating Europe with just 13 clubs in the bag this week.
Instead of sending his player iron straight in the trash can, Burns turned around to a young fan and said: "Hey, kid... you want me 9-iron?"
The boy nodded and Burns then threw it to his father standing alongside him in the stands.
The man caught the club and then handed it immediately to his ecstatic young boy.

Burns received one of six captain's picks on Keegan Bradley's 2025 US Ryder Cup team.
He is winless on the PGA Tour for more than two and half years.
Burns last tasted success on the circuit at the WGC Match Play in March 2023.
He is a five-time winner on the PGA Tour and currently ranked 23rd in the OWGR.
Despite remaining winless this season, Burns enters the Ryder Cup in some decent form.
He's logged three straight top-15 finishes on the PGA Tour heading to Bethpage.
But back to the top of the story, and Burns' brilliant interaction with a father and son.

Burns is making his second appearance on the US Ryder Cup team at Bethpage.
But it will mark his fourth appearance for the United States having represented his nation at the Presidents Cup in both 2022 and 2024.
The American last played in the Ryder Cup at Marco Simone in 2023.
He endured a tough week, like the rest of his peers, taking just one win from a possible three as Europe ran out comfortable five-point victors in Rome.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sam Burns (P) | 1 | 3 | 1–2–0 | 33.33 | 22/1 | 14/1 |
