Excitement is building among club professionals from across the UK for the highly-anticipated PGA Fourball Championship, set to take place on Farleigh Golf Club’s stunning course at the end of August.

The 27-hole Surrey course, designed by Ryder Cup legend John Jacobs, cemented its standing as a prime venue for professional tournaments when it was selected to host the pairs event for the next two years, following a successful staging of various PGA qualifying events, as well as the PGA Assistants’ Championship – making it the only PGA national final venue in the area.

Set in 350 acres of tranquillity in the North Surrey Downs, the club continues to forge an enviable reputation with its greens built to USGA specifications and exceptional course conditions throughout the year.

The 54-hole fourball strokeplay tournament will feature 60 teams comprising of more than 100 pros from across the country and will take place from Wednesday, August 28, to Friday, August 30, with 18 holes to be played on each day.

At the close of play on the Thursday, 36 teams will be cut, leaving the remaining 24 teams battling it out for the coveted title, and significant prize fund, on the Friday. With a purse of £33,250, the more relaxed atmosphere of the fourball format and the keen competitive edge make the championship a popular event among pros.

Champions from 2018 – Jack Winer (Abridge Golf and Country Club) and James Watts (Kingsway Golf Centre) – will both be looking to repeat last year’s success, but will have to fight off fierce competition – and extensive local knowledge from Farleigh’s own Ben Flint – as they bid to retain their title.

Flint said: “I’m hoping my previous course knowledge will put me in good stead for the tournament, but the great thing about Farleigh is it continues to challenge you, no matter how many times you’ve played it – and with the standard of golfers competing, it really is going to be a great few days of golf.

“It’s fantastic that such a prestigious competition is coming to Farleigh and we’re all very proud to be hosting it.”

Farleigh’s recently refurbished, modern, clubhouse will be open throughout the event for spectators and players to enjoy the extensive menu of delicious food and a fully operational bar. Live scoring will also be available on the TV screens throughout the club so you don’t miss a minute of the action.

Farleigh’s general manager, Adam Walsh, said: “We are very excited to be hosting this tournament and can’t wait to welcome everyone to Farleigh.

“We’re looking forward to seeing some high-quality golf and hope everyone enjoys the course, which is in great condition as always, thanks to our fantastic greenkeeping team and new fleet of equipment. We are committed to giving our members the best playing conditions possible and are carrying this through into the Fourball Championship to give all the professionals a memorable experience at our club.”

Golf fans are welcome to come and spectate the event for free, with no tickets required.
