Max Homa trails Doug Ghim by one stroke heading into the weekend at the John Deere Classic.
Homa carded his lowest ever opening round in a PGA Tour event on Thursday with a scintillating 8-under 63 at TPC Deere Run.
And he backed up his solid start with a decent 3-under 68 today with a round that included five birdies and two bogeys.
"I thought everything was good," he said. "Rolled it well. Hit the irons awesome. Wedged it well. Drove it well.
"Again, similar to yesterday, just nothing sticks out. Just was really good golf kind of through the bag. Yeah, those are my favorite kind of days."
Homa, who began his season with five missed cuts and a withdrawal from his first seven starts, is looking to get back into the winner's circle for the first time since the 2023 Farmers Insurance Open.
He is currently in danger of being overlooked for the US Ryder Cup team.
The 34-year-old is one of five players tied for second on 11-under, one shot behind 36-hole leader Doug Ghim.
That group includes last year's champion Davis Thompson.
Ghim, 29, is attempting to win for the very first time on the PGA Tour.
"Drove it fairly well all day," he said.
"Wish I had a couple wedges back and a couple putts back, but at the end of the day pleased to be near the top, if not in the top, going into the weekend."
