Sepp Straka shot an exceptional final round of 62 to secure his second PGA Tour win at the John Deere Classic on Sunday.
Straka, 30, started the final day four shots back from the leaders but saw that gap evaporate after a birdie on the first hole was followed by an eagle on the par-5 second.
The Austrian was then too hot to handle for the rest of the field as he proceeded to make eight more birdies, taking himself clear of the chasing pack.
He was on track for a legendary 59 before his approach on the 18th sadly found the water and an unfortunate double bogey to finish. Thankfully his work earlier in the round was enough to get the job done, and he walked off with a 62 and a check for 1.3 million dollars.
The former University of Georgia alum gained a staggering 4.68 shots on the field with his Odyssey Stroke Lab Tuttle, seemingly able to hole out from anywhere on the green.
Straka gained an additional 2.32 strokes on the field from Tee-to-Green thanks to his Srixon ZX7 MKII Irons and Cleveland RTX 6 ZipCore wedges. He now sits 29th on the PGA Tour for Greens in Regulation percentage, with the Srixon man finding the putting surface with 68.02% of his approach shots this season.
Straka is now placed 27th in the Official World Golf Rankings, having climbed ten places following his win. With the Ryder Cup only a matter of months away, the Austrian has put himself in an excellent position for selection, and he'll be hoping European Captain Luke Donald tuned in last night to see his almost perfect final round.
