Playing golf with a bluetooth speaker blaring feels very much like a distinctly American thing to do, but there's no doubt that, when playing a casual round with your buddies, there's something to be said for having a little music in the background.

As such, with younger people taking up the sport en masse and the general atmosphere of many golf clubs relaxing as a result, golf-centric bluetooth speakers combining punchy sound with useful golf functions have become something of a growth category in the sport. We tested out Blue Tees' Player+ GPS speaker last year and loved it, and now, not to be outdone, the folks at Bushnell Golf have followed suit with the Wingman HD: a GPS golf speaker that might just reset the bar for the segment.

Building on the formula of previous Wingman speaker models, Bushnell's new speaker one-ups the competition in just about every way, combining a full-powered, 360 degree speaker with an easy to use and intuitive touchscreen GPS. In an industry first, the GPS shows not just yardages with front, middle and back green distances, but detailed hole maps on the screen without having to resort to using a phone as a secondary display.

“The modern golfer expects more from their tech, and with Wingman HD we’re delivering the best of both worlds: precise distance info and powerful, elevated sound,” said Alfredo Marquez, GPS Product Manager at Bushnell Golf. “Wingman HD is built for golfers who want to stay dialled in on every shot and keep vibes up from the first tee to the final putt.”

The Wingman HD also has a ton of quality of life features that equip it for a life lived on the course. It's IPX67 rated water and dust proof, and has a BITE Magnetic Mount that allows it to attach securely directly to the front bar of any. Indoor/Outdoor EQ modes tailor the sound to course, range or indoor simulator conditions, while a "Concert Links" pairing mode allows you to connect up to 100 Wingman HD units and have them play in tandem, . Additionally, the Dynamic Audio Adjustment means that the volume of the speaker compensates automatically as the speed of the cart increases, and it even allows you to record and play things like 1st tee intros, personal messages, and custom soundbites.

The Bushnell Wingman HD will be available from retailers starting in Mid-October, priced at $199.99. You can find out more at Bushnell's website.
