Yonex VXF

Brand: Yonex
Hybrid: VXF
Category: Game improvement
RRP: £89
Best price: £75
Loft: 20-degrees
Lie: 59.5-degrees
Length: 39.75"
Shaft: HS750

Summary: Designed with the mid-to-high handicapper in mind, the VXF features a 15% larger head design that increases the sweetspot for maximum forgiveness and raises the moment of inertia. The club also utilises Variable Thickness sole design to reduce turf drag and increase head speed.

Appearance: We weren’t taken by the golf shaft – it’s a little ugly and off-putting at address. The VXF hybrid possesses a large, black head with white alignment markings on the front, which helps you zone in your target line. We also liked how you could see the loft of the club as you place it behind the ball like the Cobra AMP Cell. 3.5

Feel: Very springy sensation off face but not much feedback at impact. Good balance and well weighted, though. The smooth swing sole did feel like it reduced the turf area that came into contact with the sole and that helped improve swing speed. 7.5

Performance: The most pleasing aspect was the penetrating ball flight. When we did catch a squiffy one, it still sent the ball out there - albeit slightly drawn away from our target line. Below average in the distance stakes, though. 8

Verdict: Easy-to-align head profile, gets the ball airborne quickly and all for just £89. However, lacks fire, is not the most forgiving and we did not like the appearance much. It isn't as forgiving of thin contact as some of the superlow CG hybrids. Value for money, though. 19

Pro Verdict: Gold shaft didn’t put me off too much and the ball was travelling further than I anticipated. Not long, but decent enough. It had the illusion of a club that was much more lofted, so I was surprised with the yardage it produced around the 215-yard mark.
