Gareth Bale's love for golf has often been a major talking point throughout his career, especially during his time at Real Madrid, where fans often slammed him for not spending too much time on the golf course.

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane opted to freeze Bale out of the side for many years, leading to the Welshman spending even more time on the golf course as his struggles in Spain continued to grow.

After being sent out on a season-long loan to his former club Tottenham Hotspur, golf and football fans continued to tweet about where his next round of golf would come from.

Bale's former El Clasico rival and Barcelona defender Gerard Pique recently spoke in an interview with YouTuber Ibai Llanos and the Spaniard leapt to the defence of Bale and said that his passion for golf shouldn't have been seen as a problem, due to the important role he played in some of Real Madrid's biggest games.

"Gareth was mistreated a bit," he said. "He scored goals for Madrid in the Champions League finals, and has been very important and vital part in many Real Madrid titles.
