Tiger Woods has wasted little time in signing up for another stint as an assistant captain following his successful debut as US Ryder Cup vice-captain last week.

Woods has been named among three assistant captains assigned to the 2017 United States Presidents Cup team by captain Steve Stricker.

Fred Couples and Davis Love, the man who last week skippered the Americans to their first Ryder Cup since 2008, have also been named as assistant captains for the clash against the Internationals at Liberty National Club from September 28.

PARNEVIK: TIGER IS "FLUSHING EVERYTHING" IN PRACTICE

"It's just a tremendous honour; Steve is one of my best friends," Woods said in a statement.

"It's been a lot of fun getting to know him and Nicki and the kids, so for him to have the confidence in me, to be part of the crew and help him in any way I possibly can - I'm thrilled to be his assistant."

Stricker, however, believes his close friend Woods, who has played in eight Presidents Cup matches from 1998 to 2013, could very much make the 2017 team on merit.

"Tiger certainly could play his way onto the US team, and if that happens, replacing him as a captain's assistant will be a great problem for me to have," said Stricker.

Woods is scheduled to make his competitive return to golf at next week's Safeway Open having missed more than a year while recovering from multiple back problems.

TIGER: I WANT TO BE US RYDER CUP CAPTAIN

Nick Price, who will captain the Internationals for a third consecutive time, has named Ernie Els, Tony Johnstone and Geoff Ogilvy as his assistant captains.

United States have won nine of the 11 matches in Presidents Cup history since it began in 1994 and shared it in 2003.

The International Team's sole victory came with a 20.5-11.5 demolition at Royal Melbourne in 1998.
