The iconic Tiger Woods fist pump has been a celebration that the golfing world has become accustomed to ever since Woods began to dominate the sport in the late 90's. We hadn't seen the Tiger fist pump done properly for a long time, until his emphatic Masters victory back in April. The Tiger fist pump is starting to become a little rare due to his injuries once again affecting his golf, but that didn't stop Woods celebrating in style while watching his friend Rafael Nadal on Monday.

Since his Masters win, Woods' injury concerns have returned, causing another spell of stop-start golf for the 43-year-old. Woods recently underwent surgery to his left knee, but he will return to action in Japan in October.

The 15-time major champion has been enjoying a much-needed break from golf and on Monday night, Woods and his family were in the stands at the US Open to support his friend and tennis superstar, Rafa Nadal.

Nadal, who has already won the US Open three times and is now hunting for his fourth, beat the 2014 US Open winner Marin Cilic, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the fourth round and will now face Argentina's Diego Schwartzman in the quarterfinals.

Watching his friend Nadal, Woods was seen fist pumping in the stands as if he'd just sunk a 30ft putt to take the lead at a major, as well as go through a whole range of emotions during the match.

After his win, Nadal was asked what it was like to compete in such an important match in front of Woods.

“To play in front of Tiger is a very special thing,” Nadal said. “I’ve always said that I don’t have idols, but if I did, I would have to say that one idol is him.”

Nadal admitted he didn't actually realise that Woods was watching him until after the match, but he appreciated the support from his friend.

"It means a lot to me to have him supporting," Nadal said. "As I said, he's an amazing inspiration, all the things that he accomplish on the sport, the way that he managed to keep fighting that hard ...

"Have him supporting and be able to be in touch with him very often for me is something that I am super happy -- and I hope one day we can play golf and tennis together."
