Hudson Swafford, who bolted to LIV Golf last summer from the PGA Tour, has announced he is likely to miss the entire season.

Swafford confirmed on his Instagram page he is suffering from a hip injury which has 'caused a decline in performance'.

"After consulting with a specialist, I was unfortunately advised my best option for an optimal recovery was to undergo surgery which will require four to six months of rehab," he wrote.

He added:

"I remain a LIV Golf player and will be attending the events as soon as my recovery allows me to in a non-playing capacity while I undertake my rehab.
"I am excited for the year to get healthy again and back to playing the way I know in which I can look forward to being back on the course soon."

Some on social media joked about the injury news.

One wrote:

"Devastating blow to the Hy Flyers. Losing the 134th ranked player in the world is no laughing matter."

Another added:

"Please don't make light of this setback. The Flyers are going to pay for this one all season."

Swafford was expected to be named in Bubba Watson's RangeGoats GC side.

Watson, 44, will be making his playing debut for the breakaway tour this week in Mexico.

His side was named Niblicks GC but he opted to rebrand his side. Watson defended the name change after some found the moniker hilarious.

Swafford joined the inaugural LIV Golf Invitational Series last June.

He was suspended and banned from the PGA Tour and was one of 13 players to be named as a plaintiff in the ongoing antitrust lawsuit.

Swafford was also one of three players who had filed for a temporary restraining order in order to compete in last year's FedEx Cup playoffs.

A federal district court judge refused to allow Swafford, Talor Gooch and Matt Jones compete in the postseason.

The judge stated that their LIV contracts were "based upon the players' calculation of what they would be leaving behind and the amount the players would need to monetize to compensate for those losses".

In seven LIV events, Swafford only managed to break par once. That came at their invitational in Bangkok.

His best finish in the 54-man field events was a T-29 in Portland.

At the time of writing, LIV had not yet named their full roster of players for 2023.

It was rumoured that Thomas Pieters, the World No. 34, has decided to join the breakaway tour along with Brendan Steele and Danny Lee.
