Talor Gooch and Peter Uihlein look to prove point to DJ at LIV Golf Mayakoba

Talor Gooch and Peter Uihlein looked men on a mission on day two of the LIV Golf Mayakoba in Mexico, especially after hearing Dustin Johnson's comments earlier this week. 

Gooch, 31, and Uihlein, 33, both carded superb rounds of 66 on Saturday to move into a share of the 36-hole lead on 9-under par. 

They now take a narrow one-shot lead over compatriot Charles Howell III, 43.

He also posted a 66. 

Gooch was of course on the successful 4 Aces team last season but this term he has been replaced by Uihlein. 

DJ, the captain of the 4 Aces team, burned Gooch in his pre-tournament press conference. 

He did so by heaping praise on Uihlein, who replaced Gooch in his side for the new LIV Golf League season. 

Johnson considers Uihlein makes his team much stronger in 2023. 

Gooch now plays for Bubba Watson's new RangeGoats team.

Elsewhere on day three at LIV Golf Mayakoba, Paul Casey remains in the hunt for the title on 6-under par alongside Branden Grace. 

The Englishman held the lead in the first round but he has slipped off the pace slightly following a 71.

Graeme McDowell, Matt Wolff and home favourite Carlos Ortiz look on from 5-under par.

Tournament favourite Johnson is six shots off the lead on 3-under par, while Cameron Smith is a further shot back. 

The struggles appear to continue for Brooks Koepka (1-over par), Bryson DeChambeau (3-over par) and Phil Mickelson (5-over par).
