An English tour pro has joked Bryson DeChambeau's merch he is flogging after shooting an historic 58 on the LIV Golf tour was 'unoriginal'.

England's Eddie Pepperell joked the merchandise Bryson DeChambeau is flogging relating to his historic 58 on the LIV Golf circuit was 'unoriginal'.

DeChambeau has just dropped some 'Bry58n' tees in tribute to the incredible round he posted en route to his maiden victory on the rival tour on 6 August.

The American tore round The Greenbrier's Old White. "Probably the greatest moment in my golf career," DeChambeau said of the moment, which was quite a striking statement given he's won the U.S. Open and was also part of a Ryder Cup side that anihilated the Europeans.

DeChambeau became the fourth player on a top-level tour (sorry PGA Tour loyalists) to shoot 58. His round even included a bogey.

No wonder he decided to release this merch:

Pepperell, as he always does, found the humour. He pointed out this was an 'unoriginal idea'.

"This has already been done; You can buy PE88ERELL coffee mugs for £5.99 online," he wrote.

Unoriginal too. This has already been done; You can buy PE88ERELL coffee mugs for £5.99 online.

Which other players have shot 59 or lower?

  • Jim Furyk, 2016 Travelers Championship
  • Stephen Jaeger, 2016 Ellie Mae Classic
  • Alejandro del Rey, 2021 Swiss Challenge
  • Jason Bohn, 2001 Bayer Championship

Ryder Cup for DeChambeau?!

DeChambeau immediately followed his 58 with a plea to be included in Team USA's Ryder Cup side.

Captain Zach Johnson will name his picks on 29 August.

Johnson previously admitted that he wasn't giving too much thought to LIV Golf players.

"I'm gonna be fully transparent," he previously told GOLF. "It's hard because I'm not able to witness what they're doing and see their form, with the exception of four events a year."

Phil Mickelson - who we are surprised wasn't banned from Augusta National after dropping this Masters story - has called for Johnson to pick DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed and Talor Gooch

DeChambeau has said whatever happens he will still be rooting on Team USA.

He said:

"I understand the position that they don't see us playing enough, so it's kind of difficult to make a decision, I get that. But at the end of the day, it is what it is and I'll be rooting for Team USA no matter what."

Still here?

Why not read this feature by our Andy Roberts on why it's simply unfathomable not to take DeChambeau to Rome.
