Golf Channel has officially cancelled its planned Big Break x Good Good reboot, bringing an abrupt end to a project that was due to revive one of the network’s most recognisable golf shows.

The decision comes just hours after Callaway ended its relationship with Good Good and the group withdrew as title sponsor of a new PGA Tour event in Texas this November.

The reboot was originally scheduled to premiere on August 25, with Golf Galaxy serving as presenting sponsor.

However, the show was postponed after Golf Galaxy asked for its branding to be removed following backlash surrounding a controversial Good Good advertisement for the new Good Good x Callaway Quantum driver.

The advert showed Good Good co-founder Garrett Clark pushing a woman to the ground, prompting widespread criticism across social media and the golf industry.

Golf Galaxy subsequently removed Good Good products from its retail platforms, while Callaway announced Thursday morning that it was cutting ties with the golf-content group.

Golf Channel initially moved the first episode of Big Break x Good Good to September 1.

That plan has now been abandoned altogether.

In a statement issued Thursday evening, Golf Channel confirmed that the season would not be completed, citing recent developments involving Good Good and the fact that the intended outcome of the series could no longer be fulfilled.

The network also confirmed that Big Break itself will return in 2027.

This was the trailer for the series:

The cancellation affects 12 competitors who had taken part in the reboot.

Traditionally, Big Break gives aspiring professionals an opportunity to compete for significant playing opportunities, with previous winners earning exemptions into events on professional tours.

The winner of the Good Good reboot was originally due to receive a spot in the PGA Tour’s Good Good Championship at Omni Barton Creek Resort in Austin from November 12-15.

That tournament has since been renamed the Austin Championship on the Tour’s official schedule after Good Good withdrew its title sponsorship.

The developments follow comments from PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp, who described the controversial advertisement as “concerning”.

Good Good subsequently issued a statement, while Clark released a lengthy video apology on Wednesday night.

For fans of Big Break, there is at least one positive takeaway.

The cancellation appears to be specific to the Good Good-backed season rather than the franchise itself, with Golf Channel now targeting a return in 2027.

The original Big Break debuted in 2003 and ran for more than a decade, with its most recent season airing in 2015.

The Good Good reboot was also expected to revive famous challenges including the “Glass Break” and “Flop Wall”.

For now, however, the comeback must wait.
