San Francisco 49ers great Jerry Rice was involved in an extraordinary confrontation during last weekend's American Century Championship after appearing to chase a spectator who heckled him during his round.

The footage (which you can watch below) shows Rice striking a tee shot before someone in the gallery shouts out in his direction from behind him.

Moments later, the Hall of Fame wide receiver turns and runs after the spectator.

It remains unclear exactly what was said to Rice or which day of the tournament the incident took place.

The 63-year-old American has yet to comment publicly on the footage.

Rice was one of the best-known faces at the 2026 American Century Championship, having been a regular competitor in the celebrity event at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course for years.

This year's tournament once again featured a host of sporting stars, with former tennis professional Mardy Fish claiming the title.

On the course, Rice endured a mixed week.

He finished 42nd in the 90-player field with 72 points under the Stableford scoring format, although a difficult final round saw him record a seven-over-par score.

The tournament also saw Charles Barkley throw an epic tantrum.

While the latest confrontation has attracted widespread attention online, it is not the first time Rice has made headlines at the American Century Championship.

In 2024, he was caught on camera reacting angrily to questions from reporters following the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl victory over the 49ers.

Rice responded with an expletive-laden outburst after being asked whether Kansas City's receiving corps had done enough to secure another championship.

Exactly what prompted Rice's latest reaction remains unknown, but the footage has generated plenty of discussion across social media.

Whatever was shouted from outside the ropes, the video offered another glimpse of the fierce competitive edge that helped make Rice one of the greatest players in NFL history — and one that clearly hasn't disappeared since swapping football boots for golf shoes.
