First look: Mizuno MP-650 woods

'Clean and classy-looking' fairway and hybrid clubs

First look: Mizuno MP-650 woods

Among the clubs World No.1 Luke Donald has been testing are the latest Mizuno MP-650 woods, which made an early appearance on the Mizuno Tour van at Valderrama, during the Andalucia Masters at the weekend.

According to Mizuno, initial reports from Luke's home in Chicago are good with Chris Wood due to carry out further testing when he returns from injury.

Despite two aborted landings at Gibraltar and a diversion to Malaga, Mizuno staff were able to fit the MP-650 drivers, fairway metals and hybrids to several of their players as well as some non-contract Tour pros.

First impressions are that the clubs look clean and classy with their shiny smaller heads sitting a little open at address.

The range is aimed at the 'competent player' to produce a high ball speed from a wider sweet spot. Good spin rates and launch angles are also being recorded.

Among those with clubs already in their bags are Alvaro Velasco, David Dixon, Daniel Gaunt, Peter Whiteford and Ricardo Gonzalez (all MP-560 fairways) and Markus Brier (13.5- and 18-degree fairways).
