Eugenio Chacarra’s incredible TaylorMade putter story revealed after latest DP World Tour win
The Spaniard ditched his PXG long putter after a five-month fitting process – and the results have been remarkable, helping him win the DP World India Championship.

Eugenio Chacarra’s remarkable rise has continued with victory at the DP World India Championship – and TaylorMade has now revealed the fascinating story behind the putter that has transformed his fortunes on the greens.
The 26-year-old Spaniard finished at 21-under par in Delhi, two shots clear of the field, to claim his third win of the season and fourth DP World Tour title.
It was another statement victory for a player whose stock is rapidly rising, with Chacarra now sitting top of the Race to Dubai standings with just three events remaining.
He is also currently leading the European Ryder Cup standings ahead of the 2027 contest at Adare Manor, while he has already secured one of the 10 PGA Tour cards available through the DP World Tour for next season.
But one of the most intriguing parts of Chacarra’s recent success has been his putting.
The Spaniard is not a TaylorMade-sponsored player, but he has put his faith in a Spider Tour S Long putter – and the company has now explained how a five-month fitting process helped produce his current setup.
From 78th to third in putting
According to TaylorMade Tour Representative Alex Marine, the company had worked with Chacarra dating back to his college days, but had never previously gone deep into finding the perfect putter setup for his stroke.
That changed at the start of the summer.
Chacarra first switched into the Spider Tour S Long at the Nexo Championship before continuing to refine the club.
The biggest breakthrough came at Wentworth, when Marine and James Holley discovered that the putter was too upright.
“He would aim left and toe it in attempt to start it online which created inconsistent speed,” Marine explained.
TaylorMade subsequently flattened the putter from 79 to 76 degrees, allowing Chacarra to get his eyeline further inside the ball and improve his alignment.
The putter was then built around stability and feel, with an enormous total weight of 870g and a 535g head.
“Between the shape and stability of the Spider Tour S and the total weight of 870g, we built a high MOI putter at the exact spec to fit Eugenio’s stroke and the feel he was looking for with Pure Roll,” Marine said.
Chacarra’s TaylorMade Spider Tour S Long specs
- Loft: 2.5°
- Lie: 76°
- Length: 47 inches, cut
- Grip: Winn Split Grip
- Total weight: 870g
- Head weight: 535g
- Insert: Pure Roll
- Alignment: True Path with mid line and outside short lines
Interestingly, the Spider was not Chacarra’s previous long putter. He had been using a PXG Apache Battle Ready II Long before making the move to TaylorMade.
The numbers tell the story
The impact of the change has been significant.
Through the Irish Open, Chacarra ranked 78th on the DP World Tour for putting based on adjusted Strokes Gained metrics.
Since switching to the current version of his Spider at Wentworth, he has been third in putting over a four-event stretch, gaining more than 1.5 strokes per round on average.
His performance from six to 12 feet has been particularly impressive.
In the five events before the switch, Chacarra made just 11% of putts from that range.
Since moving into the Spider, that figure has risen to 48%, which is 23 percentage points better than the field during the same period.
He has also become an elite lag putter, getting 70% of putts from beyond 30 feet inside three feet.
That has helped reduce his three-putt percentage from outside 30 feet by 5%.
TaylorMade's work was not purely equipment-related, either.
Marine said Chacarra had developed a habit of looking up immediately after impact and had a short backswing.
During their work together, Marine would hold Chacarra’s head down through the stroke, helping straighten his path and lengthen both his backswing and follow-through.
Chacarra subsequently continued working on his mechanics through GRASP.
Chacarra remains a free agent
The putter switch is particularly interesting because Chacarra is currently a free agent in the equipment world.
He plays a mixed bag featuring clubs from both TaylorMade and Titleist, while using a Titleist Pro V1 golf ball.
Given his extraordinary rise in form, however, that could be about to change.
With a PGA Tour card secured for 2027, a place at the top of the Race to Dubai standings and a growing case for the Ryder Cup, Chacarra’s equipment stock is arguably higher than it has ever been.
Whether he ultimately signs with a manufacturer remains to be seen.
For now though, the evidence suggests Chacarra has found something he trusts in the Spider Tour S Long, and considering the five-month process that went into getting the club precisely right, it is no surprise.
A change from 79° to 76° might look insignificant on paper, but combined with the 47-inch length, 870g total weight and extensive work on his stroke, it has helped turn Chacarra into one of the hottest putters on the DP World Tour.
The results are now impossible to ignore.
