MIGUEL ANGEL JIMENEZ extended his record as the oldest player to win on the European Tour to 49 years and 337 days following a fourth career victory at the Hong Kong Open.

The Spanish veteran rolled home a 18-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole to defeat Thailand's Prom Meesawat and Wales' Stuart Manley and successfully defend his title.

"It just gets better and better - I love Hong Kong and this course," said Jimenez, who also won the Hong Kong Open in 2004, 2007 and 2012.

"This is my fourth and it was my hardest. When you need to play a playoff, you need to play one more hole, and against two guys also trying to win is hard. But my experience paid off."

It was also his 20th career win on the European Tour, bringing the Spaniard to within one of Scotland's Sam Torrance.

"I just love this course. It is an old-fashioned course where accuracy off the tee counts. You have to control the ball here."

Jimenez relied on a full bag of PING equipment including G25 driver and fairway wood, S55 irons, Tour Gorge wedge and PING putter. He also trusted the new Srixon Z Star ball.
