The old adage ‘mum knows best’ could not be applicable for Lee Westwood after his loved one heard him use expletives on live television in Qatar last week.
Westwood, who treated the audience to some colourful language on the teebox of the drivable par-4 16th on the final day, issued an instant apology following a conversation with his mother shortly after the round.
“My mum was the first person on the phone and said you might want to apologise,” said the the current World No.2.
“I didn’t think that down at 4-under I would be on television. It’s amazing how sensitive these microphones are.”
Despite being disgraced by his tee shot and uncharacteristic behaviour, Westwood did in fact drive the green and two-putt for birdie. If only all our bad shots ended up 15-feet behind the pin...
