In total, 10 of the top 20 players in the world teed it up at this stop in Southern California. 

The three courses are La Quinta Country Club, the Nicklaus Tournament Course and PGA West's Stadium Course.

Scottie Scheffler was the highest ranked player in the field, followed by the Spaniard Jon Rahm

This is a tournament where traditionally you can expect the birdies to flow. 

The defending champion of this event is Hudson Swafford, but he is ineligible to defend his title after he was banned for joining the LIV Golf League

The American Express carries a prize purse of $8m, meaning that the winner will take home a cheque for $1,440,000. 

Through 54 holes it was Davis Thompson who forged a lead after tying the eagle record in a PGA Tour event

Thompson was being chased by the aforementioned Rahm, who was three strokes off the lead with one round left.
