Tyrrell Hatton did not hold back on what he thought of his third round of the AT&T Byron Nelson on the PGA Tour.

The Englishman returned a clean card at TPC Craig Ranch on Saturday, notching six birdies to move into contention at 14-under par.

He now has a chance to win his second PGA Tour event, but the 31-year-old has to do battle with the likes of Scottie Scheffler and former World No. 1 Jason Day.

Hatton is known for his brutal honesty.

He did shy away from offering his opinion on his day's work, stating that he felt he played 'absolutely awful' at times.

The stats paint a different picture. He ranked second in strokes gained: putting, fifth in strokes gained around the green and fifth overall in strokes gained: total.

Hatton said:

"Yeah, I mean, it's mad that that was a bogey-free round. Holed some nice par putts on the front nine. Really didn't feel comfortable with my swing today, which I feel like my last sort of 12 holes yesterday I found something again and hit it really nice.
"I tried to take that feeling into today, and, yeah, just felt like a bit of a struggle. Holing par putts kind of kept me in it, and then I had a nice up and down on 14.
"Then, yeah, really nice finish where I hit some nice shots coming in."
"But 6-under is quite a flattering score certainly with how it felt for me anyway."

Still, at least Hatton is self-aware.

He said:

"I would like to be standing over my irons feeling really comfortable and I haven't really had that. Didn't really have that over the weekend at Wells Fargo either.
"It's weirdly transitioned into this week, but somehow kind of doing nicely on the leaderboard again. So maybe I have to be a little less hard on myself. I don't know."
