The PING i20 driver, suited for the better player, features a 460cc head with two heavy tungsten sole weights to increase the MOI for enhanced forgiveness and to improve launch.

Placing the elegant matte black clubhead down at address - perfect when out in the sun - the squarer-than-normal look aided me with terrific confidence standing over the ball.

In terms of feel, it's solid, with a crushing sensation through impact. Everything about it just feels stable.

Most pleasingly, however, it's one of the longer PING drivers I've tested before with both pleasing launch angles and low spin.

Off-centre hits appear to correct well for both distance and direction, while workability is equally impressive.

Verdict

PING driver fans have long lamented the passing of the Rapture V2 but the i20 has everything, and then some.

To stand on the tee knowing you have a low spin driver with a piercing trajectory, on top of decent forgiveness and sufficient workability, you cannot help but feel confident.

While the i20 is not adjustable like many drivers on the market today, golfers who like to maneuvere the ball around a course will appreciate its neutral weighting and square face at address.

Whether you prefer to hit a draw or a fade, this clubhead won't fight you. It's just begging to be hit and hit it you will. Give it a try and you won't be sorry you did, it really is a great driver for all hanicap levels.
