If it's a new rain jacket you're after, then you're spoilt for choice in the golf industry, but when it comes to high-quality and premium materials, nothing beats Galvin Green. The leading premium golf apparel brand has been making some of the best pieces of golf clothing for years and the APOLLO jacket is quite possibly the greatest jacket they have ever released.

The hefty price tag associated with the brand has often been an issue with some golfers, who quite frankly don't want to part with that much cash when there are plenty of cheaper options on the market.

But if you class yourself as a serious golfer, who plays all-year round, rain or shine, then a golf jacket needs to be seen as a long-term investment and higher-quality jackets will not only protect you from the elements more efficiently, but they will also last a lot longer than the cheaper jackets out there.

The Galvin Green APOLLO is available in a range of colours and I tested the Surf Blue/White/Black/Sharkskin, which is a great match with either black or grey trousers.

I used the jacket over a number of rounds, testing it in both light and heavy rain, while I also changed how many layers I wore underneath to test the warmth and movability.

GOLFMAGIC VERDICT

The Galvin Green APOLLO is by far one of - if not the - best rain jackets I have worn on the golf course.

To start with, its versatility makes the investment even more worthwhile. The APOLLO's main function is a waterproof jacket, which as expected was flawless.

The GORE-TEX Paclite® stretch fabric jacket kept me completely dry and it was very quick to dry off once I was out of the rain.

What makes it so versatile is its windproof feature. One of the courses I tested the jacket on was Farleigh Golf Club, often referred to as being a links-style course due to how windy it can be. Even as a windproof jacket, without any rain, the APOLLO was fantastic at keeping me warm.

Some rain jackets can often be too large and heavy for me to wear on the golf course. I'm one of those players who prefers to play without a jacket on for as long as possible, as I don't like to feel restricted when swinging, but that wasn't an issue with the APOLLO.

It's extremely lightweight and stretchy, meaning you feel as free whilst swinging as you would without a jacket on.

The thin material also means you can wear a warm layer underneath if the weather demands it.

The side pockets are a great addition as it's something that Galvin Green jackets have always lacked, but they are a neat feature that don't obstruct your arms when taking your shot.

As I mentioned before, with premium materials comes a premium price tag and at £299, the Galvin Green APOLLO certainly isn't cheap, but think of it as an investment that will last you multiple years. The APOLLO jacket is easily the best rain jacket on the market and should definitely be considered if you're in the market for a new layer of protection this winter.
