In their first blade release for seven years, Mizuno bring to the UK a limited number of the new MP-33 Irons. Mizuno’s popular line of MP irons, the MP14's and 29's, have become the iron of choice for many of the top players in golf.

Now, Mizuno, using extensive input from PGA Tour, European Tour and Japan Tour players along with and advanced computer aided design, have designed the ultimate forged muscle back iron, the MP-33.

The MP-33 iron features attributes from the previous MP series irons: Face profile of the MP-9, the Sole and Camber and Radius of the MP-14 and the loft and lie angles preferred on Tour.

"Basically, they are an amalgamation of the best of Mizuno's irons we have made" says Dave Matthews of Mizuno UK.

"But you will have to be very quick if you want a set as there are only 200 sets available in the UK". He added.

The MP-33 has several design enhancements including a computer optimised sweetspot and sole camber. The location and flow of the sweetspot provide ideal workability and trajectory control.

The sole shape includes a rolled leading edge and a bevelled trailing edge to minimise turf digging and turf drag. The MP-33 design has minimal offset consistent throughout the set. Other enhancements include a slightly larger hitting area and added mass behind the hitting area for more solid feel.

"The development of the MP-33 reinforces the fact that Mizuno makes the best forged irons in the industry," said Jeff Fiorini, Vice President of Marketing, Mizuno USA Golf Division.

"By blending our heritage with state-of-the-art technology, the MP-33 is the ultimate combination of playability and aesthetics. From forgiving cavity back designs to traditional muscle back blades, Mizuno’s expertise in forging technology continues to set the industry standard."

The original MP or Mizuno Pro irons were designed to be a classic blade that would appeal to a better player. More than 30 players on the PGA Tour currently use the MP Series irons.

The MP-33 is a culmination of feedback from these players as well as the Mizuno designer in order to create the premier forged muscle back iron. Like all Mizuno forgings, the MP-33 is crafted from Select 1025 Mild Carbon Steel using Mizuno’s patent pending "Grain Flow Forging" process to ensure consistent feel and quality from clubhead to clubhead.

In addition, Mizuno begins the "Grain Flow Forging" process with steel that meets specifications six-times tighter than the industry standard.

"The name ‘MP-33’ was selected in honour of Mizuno’s first iron, the Star-Line introduced in 1933," said Fiorini.

"The MP-33 represents more than 66 years of innovative design solutions and a long-standing commitment to develop the best golf clubs for players at all levels."

The MP-33 will be offered with True Temper Dynamic Gold steel shafts and Golf Pride Tour Velvet Grips and as you would expect from such an exacting company, custom fitting is always available. But with only 200 sets arriving in the UK you will have to be very quick as they are likely to sell like hot cakes.

Below are some comments from a golf review website in the USA where the irons have been on the market for a couple of months.

"Surprisingly forgiving. If your willing to invest the time and money this is a great set you. Feels like heaven when hit flush, makes you want to hit more. As good a club as any on the market."

"These are by far the best clubs out for top golfers. They have the same buttery feel for which Mizuno has been known for. The cosmetics are better than the 29 and 14's. I can't get enough of these clubs. They are just great."

"I demo-ed these clubs today and they are great have been playing the original PRO's for 3 years and they are showing a lot of wear. These clubs are great looking and are about one club longer than my pro's. Great clubs for this price."

Golfmagic Rating:

Looks: 11/10

Feel: It doesn't get any better than Mizuno: 10/10

Playability: Well, you have to be a pretty good player to use these, not forgiving like cavity backs, but still, 6/10 just because they look like a REAL golf club.
