- Some may argue they are similar to the previous MG2 wedges.
Our score:
PRICE: £149.00 YEAR: from 2021

The new TaylorMade MG3 wedges have been in the works for a while, but the company have arguably delivered their best update to a wedge model yet.

The design has been improved with the satin and metallic looks and they look similar to the TaylorMade P700 series with their reduced shine as well.

Both wedges will rust over time which will contribute to the increased spin rate that these new milled grind wedges will produce.

Alex took the TaylorMade MG3 wedges to Mannings Heath Golf and Wine Estate to assess their performance and compare them to their predecessors, the MG2's.

The Details

Alex took the 52˚ and 56˚ versions of the MG3 wedges to the practise ground and you can see the new and impressive satin and metallic finishes.

The leading edge appears to have been made more square and the lowest groove is even lower than usual, to help you if you hit the ball off the bottom of the club.

This also helps with the increased spin rate that TaylorMade have promised with the MG3 wedges. Argubaly the most impressive additions into the clubface are the micro-rib grooves.

These grooves can be found in between the main grooves and from both short and long distances from the hole, they help you to produce a lot of spin.

The one-hop-and-stop shot is fully possible with the MG3 wedges and the connection of the clubface provides a more satisyfing feel than ever.

When you address the ball with these new wedges, they look smaller and more compact than the Hi-Toe wedges in previous releases.

For short shots in particular, the feel and spin that you experience with the MG3 wedges is fantastic and it instils confidence in your short game.

Even in bunkers or rough, Alex experienced great success and even with the high bounce option with the 52˚ wedge, he was still able to hit pitches tight to the pin.

The Verdict

With the micro-rib grooves and the lower leading groove, the TaylorMade MG3 wedges are arguably the best improvement to a wedge model that we have seen.

The feel and connection from the clubface is magnificent. This is not to suggest that the previous MG2 wedges had problems, but the MG3's have risen to the next level.

With increased spin rate and a lovely feel, you can get creative with your newfound confidence with the TaylorMade MG3 wedges.

At £149, these wedges are a fantastic investment at a reasonable price and they will save you vital shots from in and around the green.
