Legacy Black

Legacy Black is created from Triple Net Forged 1020 Carbon Steel, whereby the Triple Net Forging process delivers tighter tolerances and consistency, while the Carbon Steel offers a soft yet solid feel through impact.

Legacy Black is a great looking forged iron. It's darker satin finish, mixed with grey and black is just beautiful and the overall design has shifted back towards the better player. It has a very straight topline and tall toe matched with 19 score lines. This provided me with terrific spin control with the shorter clubs.

I also like the tiny amount of offset on offer. The topline isn't too thin or too thick, it's just about right for the low capper.

The Vibration Absorption Rubber in the undercut cavity does a great job at minimising vibration without killing the feel of this iron.

Well placed strikes are rewarded with a higher ball flight and there's good direction and reasonable distance on offer, even though the 5-iron is cranked 26-degree. Off-centre hits are not punished severely though there is some distance loss.

To complement the high-performance head, Legacy Black Irons use advanced shaft technology developed by True Temper, in the form of the Taper Tip Dynamic Gold GS95 S200 lightweight steel, and high performance DD2 grips crafted by Golf Pride.

Verdict

Easy to see why Henrik Stenson is in the middle of a resurgence on the PGA Tour this year, ranking first in the 2013 greens in regulation stats. Legacy Black is a superb better player iron that ticks just about all the boxes for the low capper.
